A Staple Exercise

This is a very ‘go to’ exercise for shoulders. Hitting the middle over the shoulder provides a lot of ‘bang for the buck’ as the entire shoulder generally gets worked to some degree.

Often Forgotten

I think that females and males often forget to train shoulders which is a real shame. Our shoulders connect our arms and hands to the world and well balanced, strong shoulders is very important. Also, some shoulders with some muscle on them look great and make the arms look better too.

Challenges

This exercise is an isolation exercise that really puts a lot of stress on the shoulders. It is important to not yank the weight or excessively swing the weight but instead control the weight. Steady movements with a solid core is very important.

Avoid Momentum

As with most exercise momentum can be an issue with this exercise. Keeping the body tight and still can really help isolate and lessen the opportunity of injury. Be careful!

Safe Intensity

In the above video, not only do I demonstrate how to perform the exercise but I also demonstrate what a safe intensity looks like for me. Watching the sets actually performed is kind of like working out together and really learning what good, safe and intense sets look like.

Form & Safety

As always form and safety is extremely important. Injury is always possible. I have been doing movements like this for 26 years and adding weight is natural for me. Use caution and consult professionals. But keep in mind rule 2! Intensity is one of the rules I have lived by for over 26 years.
