The core is not just made up of some abs. To build core strength one should target a variety of muscle around the drunk of your body including your abs, back and sides.
Low Body Fat
It is difficult to see the serratus and obliques unless body fat percentage is very low. For those who can not or do not want to be that lean, simply strengthening these muscles are extremely beneficial. For those who are or are working towards a very lean physique, these muscle seem to be a rare delight to the eyes.
As with most exercises I will perform this exercise many different ways. Sometimes I will use lighter weight, sometimes heavier weight, sometimes I pull more towards me, sometimes I will pull the handles down and away more and sometimes I will pull my elbow more towards my side or midsection. The variations of this exercise go on and on. I love it.
It is important to keep a solid core, avoid excessive swinging and yanking for this exercise. When performing almost any core exercise I keep my midsection tight to limit the risk of hernias or other injuries.
You will notice in my videos that I actually show a warmup set and a real intense set for my abilities. I do this to help illustrate what intensity looks like as I really feel that it is misunderstood and underutilized.
Form & Safety
As always form and safety is extremely important. Injury is always possible. As with all of these videos I will demonstrate what it looks like to perform this exercise with intensity at my skill level. I have been doing movements like this for 26 years and adding weight is natural for me. Use caution and consult professionals. But keep in mind rule 2! Intensity is one of the rules I have lived by for over 26 years.
